Selfie
Students will create a "selfie" portrait from a combination of drawing and painting. Student will demonstrate their abilities to represent values to capture highlights, tones, and shadows by mixing and blending tonal colors of oil pastels.
Learning to mix skin tones is a necessary skill every artist learns and practices. There is not one set color to use straight from the box of oil pastels. Much like science class it is an experimental process of mixing white, peach, terracotta, brown and black to create a skin tone close to your own. While these two videos demonstrate a peach base and brown base this is not the only way to mix tones. Each student is encouraged to practice the layers of colors until they mix one they like. Try peach then brown then more peach. Try brown then peach then terracotta. How you combine and layer the colors will result in a new skin tone each time.
